Maximize Space with Wall Mount Racks and Cabinets

Posted by NavePoint on Aug 10th 2020

Limited space? Wall mount equipment racks and cabinets can expand installation options in smaller spaces such as server rooms and telecom closets. Selecting the right rack-mount for your requirements does not have to be daunting. With a little thought and planning you can be confident in your selection.

Select a location.

When choosing a location for your wall mount solution consider the total weight of the rack and equipment.  Next, ensure the surface is sturdy and large enough to accommodate the current load, and any additional items that you plan to add at a future date.

Select what height you need.

What equipment do you plan on installing? Focus on what equipment you will install today, and plan for future growth. Consider not only what primary equipment (servers, switches, patch panels, etc.) you will mount, but also secondary equipment (cable managers, shelves, PDUs, etc.). Plan for adequate ventilation and air flow.  A “rack unit” or “U space” is 1.75-inch (44.45mm) high. If you are considering a 6U wall mount rack, the height would be 6 x 1.75-inch, which equals 10.5-inch high.

Select what depth you need

Measure your equipment depth and add on 3in to allow space for cabling. NavePoint offers wall mount racks and cabinets depths that range from 16-inch to 24-inch.

Total weight of your equipment

Once you have selected a rack or cabinet that can accommodate the height and depth of your equipment, look at the total weight capacity. Determine the total weight of your equipment and make sure the rack-mount can handle the capacity, and remember to plan for future growth.

Equipment Accessibility

How accessible does your equipment need to be for management and maintenance? This can help determine the style of rack or cabinet you choose.  For instance, if you need to frequently access the rear of your equipment a swing gate rack offers ultimate accessibility with a front-gate that opens 180°, from either side.  If you require less frequent accessibility then a cabinet with removable side panels or a fixed rack might suffice. NavePoint offers a wide range of racks and cabinets with multiple accessibility options to meet your requirements.

Additional requirements.

There are a wide range of options available to meet your requirements in wall mount rack or wall mount cabinets. For example, is security a concern? If so, you should consider a wall mount cabinet that includes a lockable door and side panels. Is cooling, ventilation or accessibility a concern? An open frame rack allows more air flow and accessibility or a cabinet with fans and a perforated door could meet your requirements as well.

NavePoint offers a variety of options for wall mount solutions. Select the wall mount type from rack rails, open racks or cabinets that come in fixed, swinging, pivoting, expandable or vertical orientations.

For cable management, racks include tie slots in the rack rails, giving you multiple ways to attach and organize cabling.

Mounting options include threaded and square versions to suit your needs.

NavePoint racks and cabinets are RoHS, EIA/ECA-310-E, DIN 41494 and IEC-60297-3-100 compliant.
