5 Benefits of White Server Racks and Cabinets

Posted by Steve Bowman on Oct 20th 2023

Server room equipment has been around for decades, and the vast majority is offered in one color – black. However, in recent years, the trend toward lighter-colored server racks and cabinets has gained popularity among IT professionals. In response to this growing interest, NavePoint recently introduced a new line of white server cabinets, open-frame racks, and matching rack accessories. They hold standard 19-inch-wide components and include:

There are many advantages of installing dark-colored networking devices on white server racks, but here are five main ones we would like to share with you:

5 Advantages of White Server Cabinets and Open-Frame Racks

The trend towards white or lighter-colored cabinets has been driven by factors such as improved visibility, a cleaner aesthetic, and potential benefits in temperature regulation. Using white-colored network racks and cabinets can offer several benefits:

  • Aesthetics: A white finish often gives a cleaner, more professional, and more spacious appearance. It can contribute to an organized and visually appealing workspace, which is particularly important in areas where clients or visitors may have access. Lighter racks and enclosures also blend in with lighter-colored walls, which can make a room seem bigger and less cluttered.
  • Visibility: White cabinet interiors reflect light, making it easier to see and identify cables, connectors, and equipment. This can simplify maintenance, troubleshooting, and overall management of the network infrastructure.
  • Temperature Regulation: White surfaces reflect more light and heat compared to darker colors. In heat-intensive data centers or server rooms, this can help in maintaining a cooler environment by reflecting more ambient light and reducing heat absorption.
  • Reduced Energy Consumption: White surfaces reflecting more light can contribute to a brighter environment without the need for additional lighting. In well-lit areas, this can potentially reduce the need for artificial lighting, leading to energy savings.
  • Brand Image: White cabinets can be associated with cleanliness, a modern aesthetic, and a forward-thinking approach. This can contribute to a positive brand image, especially in industries where the appearance of the IT infrastructure is a consideration.

New NavePoint White Rack-Mount Accessories

These new white accessories match our cabinets and open-frame racks.

  • Rack shelves let you install non-rack-mountable components in your rack or cabinet. These might include laptop docking stations, desktop computers, external hard drives, audio/video gear, and test equipment. In addition, equipment is easier to access and to move when it is shelved rather than rack-mounted. Our white rack shelves come in three designs – cantilever shelf, cabinet shelf, and fixed shelf. We offer four depths: 8, 10, 14, 16, and 21.6 inches.
  • Rack-mount drawers keep your rack necessities safe and close at hand. Our locking white rack-mount drawers are a generous 13.7 inches deep and come in depths of 2U, 3U, or 4U. Common drawer items include spare cables, cable management items, documentation, flashlights, tape, cleaning supplies, and spare hardware.
  • Blank panels fill unused rack spaces to keep dust outside your cabinet and to give it a finished, professional look. We offer white rack-mount blank panels in both solid and vented for more air flow. Both types are available in 1U, 2U, or 3U.
  • A raceway is basically a box that mounts just inside your rack that helps route cables and tucks them away for a cleaner look. Our well-vented white horizontal cable management raceway is 1U by 2.5 inches deep. It will help you organize and protect your cables while hiding them to give your rack a more organized look.
